I do agree with some its all personal taste.
If I like black on say an assasin ill do it,But mostly Ill dye an armour and have a look. Like green on one of my female rits..she looks cool but again its personal taste otherwise ill merch them.
I will just hold onto white/black ect for a short while

I wish I could mix it well with other colors to create nice deep dark colors like I could before NF completely screwed the mixing system.
Now the mixing is bugged for 3 years and it plain sucks, black itself is way too dark but when mixing it's not dark at all in most cases and in extreme cases adding a black to a mix can make the color brighter instead of darker!
WTB a fix, paying 100 black dyes.

Black is my favorite color. The only set armor I really use is dyed black, the others just default.

In 4 years and quite a few armor sets I've never dyed anything black (or white, for that matter). I've only had 3 black drops, so maybe that makes me think they're more valuable. I tried it on my Warriors Primeval though and it completely covered up a lot of detail. It was horrible. Silver was much better.

I use brown alot to darken color combos. It gives color a more rustic look, instead of shadowy.
But it still depends on the type of armor your dying, despite it supposed to being universal now. Try dying male ele vabbian armor, it's so outta wack its funny, almost like dying a chaos axe.

It's all a matter of personal preference. I used black dye in combination with other dyes for my Mesmer's obsidian armor to get a nice color that you don't see very often and it looks good. I've got straight black dye on my Dervish's Vabbian armor. It's more common to see, but I like the look of it - it doesn't hide all of the details like it does on many armors. On my perma-pre mesmer, I dyed the top and boots black and the legs & gloves a green combo. Again, because I like the look of it (All black would be ugly).

i just use them on whatever looks good. i used to have black 1k canth armor on my ele. my derv has black armor, a guildie has dyed his iventory bags black. i mean, meh... its only a coloured dye... luckily i farm a lot, so i have quite a few in storage.
just depends, some people who dont come across them that often will use them on anything they can, or sell them. people who get a lot of black dyes just use them like any other colour

Just dye your bags black, and then use the rest on what ever you think looks good with black dye?

I use it mainly for mixing, plain black looks atrocious on monks, atm i'm running a 2 black + red combo and looks pretty nice, looks like my armour has been lacquered

My ranger:
Didn't like how it turned out, so I re-dyed it:
If I am not mistaken, this one contains two black dyes per piece.
And then, I deleted that ranger since I found a hotter piece of ass:
(And don't get me started on the black armours my mesmers that I deleted had!)
It's just gold.

@upier I really like that second pic's color. Very appropriate for a ranger, too. Shame you deleted him.
And I agree, pre dye update black was vastly better than post dye update black. I was still overdone, but at least it didn't look like a graphical glitch half the time.

I have 2 characters in black armor, my ranger and dervish, but that's because it actually looks cool. It's all about personal preference, and I find black a good color with certain armors.

I sell my black dye because all the DARK AND BROODING lovers make it so expensive.
White is way better for me, especially on warrior armors. Although I have taken to color coding my armors, like my warrior is white, monk is green, Ele is red...
(Green Elite Canthan Armor looks boss)

Black/white doesn't have any prestige status for me, the only thing that matters is to get the color that I want. I have more vials of each than I'll ever need but the only pure black armor that I've got is my sin's FoW. I wanted to dye it to skin color so that the armor would look like a sparse collection of leather straps but since the color mixing system is as FUBAR as it is, after half an hour of trying I gave up and dunked her in a big vat of black dye for authenticity.

I look at them lying on the ground for a sec, and go "ooh, black dye!". Then I pick them up, and sell them to the dye trader as soon as I get back to town. I have no use for them, and I can't be bothered trying to sell to players (trading is deeply unpleasant).

I keep all dyes I get no matter what the color. It's handy to have them if you need to dye something. I never consider their price/cost since gold is so easy to come by anyway.

in 2 years 11 months of playing, i have gotten exactly 34 black dyes as drops, used 6 on random armor pieces, one on a weapon, and still have 27 in storage. I might blow them all and put them on my favorite weapons i have collected over the years even though i never really look or play with them. Up until 6 months ago I used to pick up any dye I got just to see the distribution over time with the various colors, but after nearly a stack of green and brown and orange and yellow I said forget it and just grab the black, white, silver, red, blue now. Why? I dunno...just habit.

I use them, I sell them, I collect them
Any person claiming black dye is overrated, better selling than using it or armors don't look good in 100% black is talking absolute nonsense. The way you look depends on a lot of things. Starting with your skin color, hairstyle, hair color, face... Not even mentioning sex or profession. Or the armor itself... On some black color looks proper black on others dark-grey(ish). The very reason I'm having plenty of dyes so I can experiment
My monk has 3 armor sets (out of 14) dyed plain black and anyone who says she doesn't look good needs to see an optician
